Transrectal Ultrasonography (TRUS) & Prostate Biopsy

Overview

Transrectal ultrasonography is an imaging test of the prostate and performed during a prostate biopsy. Under the guidance of TRUS, small needles are inserted into the prostate to remove several pieces of tissue. The tissue specimen is sent to a pathologist to be evaluated for the diagnosis of prostate cancer.

How to prepare for the test

A prostate biopsy is performed under local anesthesia and in our office.
