Overview

Transurethral resection of bladder tumor is a minimally invasive procedure. A specialized cystoscope is used to identify and resect the tumor within the bladder. It is performed to identify and stage the tumor.

How to prepare for the procedure

Transurethral resection of bladder tumor is performed under general anesthesia. When preparing to have a procedure performed under anesthesia you can expect to start fasting the night prior to your procedure. Please consult with your surgeon to discuss the pre-operative testing which may include; blood work, chest x-ray, EKG, discontinuation of medications, and clearance for other medical reasons. The procedure will be done at the hospital. Patient may be admitted to the hospital for 23 hours and discharged home with a catheter in for several days.
