What is an overactive bladder?
An overactive bladder is a condition that involves a frequent and urgent need to urinate, and may or may not be associated with the leakage of urine. There may be underlying abnormalities that cause this condition and urologic evaluation is necessary.
Evaluation
Evaluation will include urodynamic studies which involve testing the storage and emptying function of the bladder, as well as evaluation of the nerve conduction during this process. The urologist will also perform a cystoscopy to completely evaluate the anatomy of the bladder and urethra.
Treatment
Treatment is individualized for each patient based upon their complete evaluation. The treatment usually includes medications to calm the bladder and the use of new nerve stimulation devices have been shown to improve this condit
